PURCHASE THE MINDUP CURRICULUM THROUGH SCHOLASTIC
The Hawn Foundation and Scholastic, Inc. worked together to produce The MindUP Curriculum, the Foundation’s signature educational program designed to help all children and young people focus attention, reduce stress, and realize their potential. Three developmentally appropriate volumes (PK-2, 3-5, and 6-8 grades) feature 15 lessons that use the latest information about the brain to dramatically improve behavior and learning for all students. The lessons fit easily into any school’s daily routine, and teachers can then integrate the skills and ideas of MindUP into the regular curriculum as well. Classroom management tips and content-area activities help teachers extend the benefits of MindUP throughout the school year.
Goldie Hawn said, “Having launched this movement more than eight
years ago, it is so gratifying to witness the culmination of our partnership with Scholastic, which helped to make possible my dream of the optimistic classroom.” Scholastic chose to partner with the Hawn Foundation largely because of the MindUP program’s unusually broad appeal and effectiveness—assets that stem, in part, from the unmatched degree to which MindUP students are taught to consciously and consistently leverage their own brain’s extraordinary capacities. Richard Robinson, CEO of Scholastic, Inc. said, “We feel that its important for kids to learn how their emotions and mind work so they can harness the power of their brain to feel better and in turn, learn better.”
Although MindUP was developed to facilitate classroom implementation and designed for easy access for all Pre-K through Eighth-grade teachers, The Hawn Foundation strongly urges school leaders and teachers to contact us about scheduling an on-site MindUP Teacher Training Workshop for an all-school implementation workshop, which has been designed to help teachers and administrators:
- Learn how to implement MindUP in the classroom with maximum effectiveness;
- Become familiar with the theoretical and pedagogical foundations of MindUP;
- Experience first-hand The MindUP Curriculum through interactive learning;
- Develop an acquaintance with MindUP to support children's acquisition of skills to recognize and manage emotions, development of concern for others, responsible decision-making, maintainence of positive peer and adult relationships, reduction of stress and anxiety, and ability to focus attention;
- Integrate the skills, principles, and concepts of MindUP into existing standards-based curricula.
